At the Tattersalls Mare Sale I was kept busy and bought 15 mares and fillies for English, Irish, Saudi Arabian & Pakistani clients led by Impressible, an Oasis Dream winning half-sister to Gr.1 sprinter Reverence, for Newsells Park Stud to visit their new stallion Equiano.
I was due to attend the Arqana Breeding Stock sale in Deauville, France but the heavy snow and ice prevented me getting there. I did buy a mare at the sale through another agent on behalf of an English client.
I have already booked most of my clients mares in to covering stallions for the 2011 season but there are still some nominations to be arranged. I went and saw all the new first season stallions who were brought to Newmarket to be shown-off during the sales – Showcasing, Equiano and Makfi. It is a fascinating project trying to match a mares good points and faults to a prospective stallion and trying to evaluate the actual ability of a stallion both in the present and in a couple of years’ time when the progeny might be sold.
Looking forward,
January is a quite month as a bloodstock agent for doing new business, but pretty busy as there is always plenty of tidying-up to do post the Autumn sales season. I will be attending the Doncaster January Sale (Tuesday 25th January) though it tends to have only a limited number of horses with appeal (in 2010; 183 sold for a median of £3,000).
