Queen Daenerys runs blinder in Epsom Oaks

Queen Daenerys added to her Listed second in the Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket by running a solid race in the third British Classic of the 2020 season, taking fourth in the Group 1 Epsom Oaks behind run-away winner Love. She looks a promising runner for trainer Roger Varian, hopefully she has big days ahead of her.

This Frankel filly has a beautiful pedigree, being a half-sister to four black type performers including Gr.1 winning filly Magnificent Song. She will be a fabulous addition to the paddocks but hopefully not for a while yet!

Two year old Muhaarar filly Concessions won on debut for trainer Richard Hannon in June before running second in the Listed Empress Stakes at Newmarket.

Royal Ascot was a strange affair this year with no crowds because of the Covid-19 pandemic and the very short lead-up to the meeting, which was especially true for the 2 year olds. Dark Lion had been well regarded by trainer Roger Varian coming in to the meetings premier 2 year old race for colts, the Group 2 Coventry Stakes over 6 furlongs. The Dark Angel colt didn’t really have the run of the race but still managed a very decent fourth.

Three year old Le Havre filly, Waliyak was well fancied in the Sandringham Handicap at Royal Ascot but found herself drawn on the wrong side. She pulled well clear on her wing of the field to finish second to Onassis who was completely the opposite side of the track.
