August proved to be a very sad month with the death of my mother who had been ill for a number of years. She was a marvellous woman who had lived life to the full. Unsurprisingly it rather dominated the month.
At the Doncaster August Horses-in-Training sale I bought a couple of horses including Bow Beaver to go to Saudi Arabia for £40,000. I could not attend the whole of the Arqana August yearling sale due to my mother’s death but I did manage to buy a cheap Montjeu filly privately for a Hungarian client. I had a very frustrating Doncaster Premier yearling sale where nothing seemed to come together – price, orders or conformation!
In September I will be going to the following sales –
Doncaster St Leger Festival Yearling Sale (Thursday 9th September)
– in 2009; 61 yearlings sold for a median of £8,000
Keeneland September Yearling Sale (Sunday 12th to Monday 27th September)
in Kentucky (in 2009; 3,159 yearlings sold for a median of $22,000)
Goffs Orby Yearling Sale (Tuesday 28th to Thursday 30th September)
in Ireland (in 2009; 467 yearlings sold for a median of €29,000)
