Third Bahrain King’s Cup / 13th Pakistan Derby

Oliver won the Bahrain King’s Cup for the third time when WAKAME won for Owner/Trainer Fawzi Nass beating another of his purchases, Vale Do Sole, also for Fawzi Nass.  Wakame had been bought by Oliver at the 2016 Tattersalls Autumn Horses-in-Training Sale for only 50,000 Guineas, whilst Vale Do Sole was purchased at the same sale in 2015.

The King’s Cup is the most prestigious and important race for imported horses in Bahrain.  Oliver had previously won the race in 2015 when having the first 3 horses home – Rainbow Rock, Semeen and Tonabroky.  In 2011 he won the race again for Owner/Trainer Fawzi Nass with Book Of Numbers.

BIG BRAVE won the Pakistan Derby for breeder Abdul ‘Bunny’ Mamdot of Qadirabad Stud.  This was Bunny Mamdot’s 9th Derby (all from purchases made by Oliver) with this colt being by Danehill stallion Dunhill Star (purchased privately by Oliver) out of Perfect Pirouette, a 5,000 Gns. purchase by Oliver at Tattersalls.

Oliver has now won the Derby on 12 occasions that he is aware of since 2001.  This was his 8th consecutive victory in Pakistan’s most prestigious race, having won every running from 2010 on.
