Review of the 2023 Season

Another brilliant year for Oliver St Lawrence Bloodstock purchased horses, highlighted by 3 Individual group 1 winners. Salute The Soldier was the first, becoming the first horse to win two running’s of Group 1 Round 3 of the Al Maktoum Challenge at Meydan on Super Saturday.

Bradsell confirmed himself one of the world’s best sprinters by winning the Kings Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot, leaving multiple group 1 winners such as Highfield Princess & Equilateral trailing in his wake. Bradsell backed up this performance later in the season, managing to place in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes & the G1 Flying Five Stakes at the Curragh.

Eldar Eldarov was then the third, winning the Irish St Leger to complete the St Leger double after having won the English version the previous year, and putting 3 lengths on four-time group 1 winner Kyprios in the process.

It was also a solid year for the other three-year-olds, including Mitbaahy winning the Listed Queensferry Stakes at Chester while running solid races in the Group 2 Temple Stakes & Group 1 Kings Stand Stakes, not bad from a yearling purchase price of just £50,000.

Dilawar, purchased in partnership with Arthur Dobell, also had a good year winning two races including a listed. There were many other three-year-old winners including Pledgeofallegiance, Rocket Rodney, Double March & Withering among many others.

There is also a great deal to look forward to in 2024 given the many exciting 2yo winners from this season. Army Ethos won his maiden comfortably before coming a fantastic second in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot after being drawn on the wrong side.

Seven Questions, bought for just £58,000, placed in the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes, Group 2 Mill Reef Stakes & Group 2 Criterium de Maison Laffitte.

On top of these there were winners showing great potential for next season including Military Artist, Irregular Warfare, Goal Exceeded, Watch My Tracer & Nazron to name but a few.

Arthur Dobell had a very strong year, purchasing 14 individual winners in Europe from an average purchase price of under £15,000. Highlights include Royal Ascot hopeful Nazron, last seen easily winning his maiden by 4 lengths, as well as filly Rebel Angel, purchased for just £6,000 as a yearling, who won 6 races and over £50,000 in prize money.
