Review Of The 2024 European Season

It’s been another fantastic season at Oliver St Lawrence Bloodstock, having purchased the winners of over ten stakes’ races, including three Group 1 wins as well a Royal Ascot winner and many excellent two-year-old performances giving plenty of potential for the 2025 season.

.

The flagship performer of the season was undoubtably BRADSELL, who after coming to the season late won both the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes & the Group 1 Flying Five Stakes. He also was runner up in the Group 1 Prix l’Abbaye at Longchamp. He’s been a fantastic servant to his owner Victorious Racing over the last few years having won the Group 2 Coventry Stakes as a two-year-old and the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes as a three-year-old, and we wish him the best as he embarks on the next stage of his career as a stallion at The National Stud in Newmarket.

.

Another Group 1 winner was CALIF, who was purchased by Oliver as a horse in training in 2023, won the Group 1 Grosser Dallmayr-Preis in Munich as well as the Group 3 Prix La Coupe at Longchamp & placing fourth in the Group 2 Qatar Prix Dollar at the Arc de Triomphe meeting. He’ll head out to the middle east for a winter campaign where he’ll certainly be a force to be reckoned with.

PledgeOfAllegiance continued Victorious Racing’s fine record of Tuesday winners at Royal Ascot (now three years in a row) by taking the Ascot Stakes. To make it even more special he was trainer Sir Mark Prescott’s first winner at the Royal Meeting since 1996.

There were also many pattern race winners and performers. Secret Satire won the Group 3 Musidora Stakes. Secret Satire’s dam, Secret Pursuit, was purchased by Oliver & Secret Satire was bred in his role as breeding advisor to owner & breeder Guy Brook, as was Zoum Zoum who was runner up in the Group 3 Greenham Stakes. Seven Questions won the Group 3 Palace House Stakes for Victorious Racing, and Watch My Tracer won the Listed Spring Cup. Finally, Dilawar has bounced back to a fantastic level winning two Listed races and the French Country Championship Series netting the €100,000 bonus in the process.

From the two-year-olds Serving With Style was a dual winner and was runner up in the Group 2 Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket, and Duty First was a winner and runner up in the Group 3 Prestige Stakes at Goodwood.

ARTHUR DOBELL also had a fine season, with 14 individual winners and 25 wins including two listed races from limited purchase prices – particular highlights being SearchingTheBlues, Andartis, Nazron, Token Gesture, Vilaine Verlaine & Grecian God, all purchased from an average fee of under £10,000. Arthur was also involved in the purchase of 2024 dual Listed winner Dilawar. He has been very active buying at the Horses-In-Training and broodmare sales.
